Facts about the central security checkpoint

  • Opening: The new, central security checkpoints opened on 1 June.

  • Investment: Copenhagen Airports has invested DKK 200 million in the new security checkpoint.

  • Building period: The building project was started up in late August and was completed on time.

  • Capacity doubled: The new security checkpoint doubles capacity to 16 tracks.

  • Central location: The security checkpoint is located in the middle of the airport at the first floor level. By establishing one central security checkpoint rather than two in separate terminals, the airport will increase its capacity and flexibility, which will translate into better service for passengers and shorter waits.

  • Designed to meet the many new security requirements: “Recent years’ stricter regulatory requirements have increased the screening time, and there are new requirements to capacity and design to ensure that passengers have a good experience at security. The new checkpoint is designed to better meet the many new security rules.

  • More space: The central security checkpoint is designed in such a way that there is more space for passengers to prepare themselves before screening and to pick up their belongings after screening without creating extra waits for the other passengers.

  • Automatic tray system for the trays passengers use for clothing, computers, etc. The trays roll automatically from the end of the screening conveyor belt back to the beginning. This reduces staff back strain and saves time.

  • Materials: The central security checkpoint is a light and welcoming area as daylight flows in from the curved, northern glass facade. The materials used in the area are jatoba wood floors and stainless steel structures as in the rest of the airport.

  • Area: The security checkpoint encompasses an area of 6,200 square metres of converted/expanded space.

  • Shorter waits: The new security checkpoint and the many new security screeners will ensure that CPH can meet its quality target in future, namely that 95% of passenger get through the checkpoint in less than 5 minutes, and that the maximum waiting times do not exceed 20 minutes.
