Cargo performance in Q1 2003

Air transport movements

The number of cargo air transport movements (ATMs) fell from 2,796 ATMs in Q1 2002 to 1,923 ATMs in Q1 2003, equivalent to a decline of 31.2%. The fall was a consequence of a 9.9% drop in cargo volume in the first three months of the year.

Cargo volume

As mentioned above, the volume of cargo handled at Copenhagen Airport was down 9.9% from 90,949 tonnes in Q1 2002 to 81,988 tonnes in Q1 2003. Most of the fall was caused by a 13.7% decline in the volume of transfer tonnage, from 66,559 tonnes in Q1 2002 to 57,442 tonnes in Q1 2003.

The volume of cargo imported via Copenhagen Airport saw a 1.2% decline during the period, dropping from 9,730 tonnes in Q1 2002 to 9,614 tonnes in Q1 2003.

Conversely, the volume of cargo exported via Copenhagen Airport was up 1.9% during the period: from 14,660 tonnes in Q1 2002 to 14,932 tonnes in Q1 2003.

The fall in transfer tonnage was the result of a change in the DHL route network effective 1 January 2003. The change was a result of an adjustment to the market situation by DHL, which resulted in a 46% reduction in the number of ATMs in Q1 2003 compared with Q1 2002.
