Cargo performance in the first half of 2003

Air transport movements

The number of cargo air transport movements (ATMs) fell from 5,221 ATMs in the first half of 2002 to 3,930 ATMs in the first half of 2003, equivalent to a decline of 24.7%. The fall was a consequence of a 11.1% drop in cargo volume in the first six months of the year.

Cargo volume

As mentioned above, the volume of cargo handled at Copenhagen Airport was down 11.1% from 183,575 tonnes in the first half of 2002 to 163,211 tonnes in the first half of 2003. Most of the fall was caused by a 16.4% decline in the volume of transfer tonnage, from 135,522 tonnes in the first half of 2002 to 113,274 tonnes in the same period of 2003.

Conversely, the volume of cargo imported via Copenhagen Airport saw a 4.5% increase during the period, up from 19,125 tonnes in the first half of 2002 to 20,017 tonnes in the first half of 2003.

The volume of cargo exported via Copenhagen Airport was also up 3.3% during the period: from 28,928 tonnes in the first half of 2002 to 29,920 tonnes in the first half of 2003.

The fall in transfer tonnage was the result of a change in the DHL route network effective 1 January 2003. The change was a result of an adjustment to the market situation by DHL, which resulted in a 24.7% reduction in the number of ATMs in the first half of 2003 compared with the first half of 2002.
