Sterling builds a bridge between Aalborg and Europe, with Copenhagen as the hub

Sterling has just announced that it intends to increase its number of connections between Aalborg, Denmark and a number of European destinations using Copenhagen Airport as a hub. The airport’s CEO praises the airline’s planning as innovative and far-sighted.

Sterling has announced that it will be developing its so-called "SterlingConnect" product starting 2 June 2008. This means that in future Sterling will offer connections from Aalborg via Copenhagen to 13 European destinations.

Eight new destinations
"SterlingConnect means more options, simpler connections and better handling of baggage, which will be checked through to the final destination,” said Michael T. Hansen, chief commercial officer at Sterling Airlines.

The SterlingConnect service used to be available only from Aalborg via Copenhagen Airport to Malaga, Milan, Nice, Barcelona and Budapest. Since early June, the product has included another eight destinations, including Athens, Paris, Florence and London.

Potentially more routes
Copenhagen Airports President and CEO Brian Petersen praises the airport’s second-largest customer as innovative and far-sighted.

"SterlingConnect is an excellent and innovative product which increases the number of routes and frequencies to and from the Copenhagen region. Copenhagen Airport is Scandinavia's hub, and Sterling’s new product helps support this position. Moreover, it is a good example of a hub airport like Copenhagen Airport being able to meet the demands of a budget airline in connection with its consolidation and transfer of traffic via a large airport,” said Petersen.
