Air China Cargo expands activities at Copenhagen Airport

The Chinese company Air China Cargo has just changed over to its winter schedule, meaning an increase in traffic between Copenhagen and Asia. The growing trade between Asia and Denmark has created the need for an additional weekly flight and an increase in the number of destinations on the route.

During the weekend of 27 - 28 October, Air China launched an additional flight, increasing the company’s number of flights on the route Shanghai-Beijing-Copenhagen-Beijing to four a week. In addition to increasing capacity between Europe and Asia, Air China Cargo is also increasing the number of destinations on the route. On two of the Company’s four frequencies, the route goes from Copenhagen to Manchester and then back to Shanghai.

Growing demand

"We have seen growing demand for capacity between the European and Asian markets in recent years. We are very pleased to be able to meet this demand and hope that the increased capacity will contribute to expanding the market even further," states Bi Sheng, Cargo Manager of Air China Cargo.

In future, the company will operate weekly services, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Air China Cargo began operating out of Copenhagen Airport in 2006.

Scandinavia’s major air cargo hub

Up until May 2007, Copenhagen Airport handled a total of 227,447 tonnes of cargo, constituting an 8.8% increase. The added cargo frequency serves to consolidate Copenhagen Airport’s position as Scandinavia’s largest air cargo hub.

"To maintain our position as the largest airport in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, it is more important than ever for us to communicate to companies the benefits of the airport - such as effective turn-arounds and competitive prices – making it attractive to set up business in Copenhagen," says Lars Korup, head of cargo at Copenhagen Airports A/S.

In addition to Air China Cargo, the Shanghai-Copenhagen-Paris-Shanghai route is serviced by China Cargo Airlines with three weekly flights.
