Huge increase in flights to the USA from Copenhagen

With more and more Danes wanting to travel and more connections to the United States, there are now 30 per cent more passengers flying to the USA

More travellers than ever before are flying from Copenhagen Airport to destinations in the United States. In June, July and August of this year, there were a combined total of 240 thousand passengers on flights between Copenhagen and the US, an increase of 30 per cent more than during those same summer months last year.

Danish interest in travel to the US has been on the rise in recent years, and an increasing number of American tourists and cruise passengers have been visiting Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia. Figures from the Danish national statistics office, Statistics Denmark, show that the number of hotel overnights by Americans in Denmark is up noticeably this year. The preliminary figures available are from January to July and show an increase of 15 per cent.

Against a backdrop of this growing market, Copenhagen Airport welcomed two American airlines this past spring: Delta Air Lines opened a route to Atlanta and Continental Airlines a route to New York, a city served by SAS as well. SAS also flies from Copenhagen to Seattle, Chicago and Washington, DC.

“Passengers now have more flights and airlines to choose from, and that has really stimulated travel this year. The market for flights between Denmark and the USA has expanded substantially in just a few months,” says Corinna Lundbæk Pedersen, a department head at Copenhagen Airports A/S.
