Full flights to Thailand
In 2004, Thailand was the most popular holiday destination in Asia, and the second-most popular overseas destination out of Copenhagen Airport.
Last year, 450,000 passengers travelled on scheduled flights to this most popular holiday destination in Asia for Scandinavians. 150,000 of these passengers travelled via Bangkok to other destinations in the Pacific.
From January 2006, Thai Airways will operate an extra frequency on the service to Bangkok, and the airline will thus carry passengers to the destination every day of the week. Thai Airways will be using 405-seat 747-400s on the route. From the turn of the year, SAS and Thai Airways will together be operating 13 weekly flights to Bangkok.
“We can see that a large number of the Scandinavian passengers who have Thailand as their final destination choose to fly out of Copenhagen, but via other European airports. Both SAS and Thai Airways operate full flights out of Copenhagen, so there is clearly excess demand. Even in May and June, which are normally low-season months, we have seen growth rates of 20 and 30 per cent, respectively. We are therefore very pleased with Thai Airways’ decision to add a new frequency,” comments route developer Anna Høegh-Andersen of Copenhagen Airports.
From all of Scandinavia, about one million passengers travelled to Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam in 2004. Half of these passengers travelled either out of or via Copenhagen Airport.
