New service linking Cologne and Copenhagen

City Air will begin to fly Cologne to Copenhagen on 23 September 2002. The company will offer two daily departures on weekdays for the rest of the year, and three daily departures from 2003, using 44-passenger ATR42/500 aircraft. The scheduled flight time will be one hour 25 minutes.

Based in Germany, City Air already operates the service from Copenhagen Airport to Paderborn and Münster in co-operation with SAS, and City Air passengers connect to SAS flights for other destinations in Scandinavia, the Baltic States and Eastern Europe. City Air is an independent airline founded in 1971.

Port of entry to the rest of Scandinavia

Commenting on the co-operation between Copenhagen Airports and City Air, Bernd Behrend, head of Marketing at City Air, says:

"We chose Copenhagen Airport because of its many air, train and road links to Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Baltic States, and because the Oresund bridge and its easy access to Sweden makes this the ideal port of entry to the rest of Scandinavia. By opening this service, we are also trying to promote Copenhagen as an international hub and an alternative long-distance hub for SAS relative to the overcrowded airports in Frankfurt and London."

Merete Rønde, deputy director at Copenhagen Airports A/S and head of Airline Relations adds:

"We are very pleased about City Air’s decision to fly the Cologne-to-Copenhagen route. As the main airport in northern Europe and a transfer airport for air traffic between other parts of the world and the many national and regional airports in Scandinavia, we take pride in being able to offer our passengers the most comprehensive route network possible. And the Cologne-to-Copenhagen service brings our coverage to 113 destinations."
