Scandinavian restaurant Noma named World’s Best Restaurant for second year

Noma can also boast two Michelin stars for its innovative, modernistic cooking style. Another eight restaurants in Copenhagen have been awarded Michelin stars making it the gastronomic capital of the Nordic countries in front of Stockholm, Oslo and Helsinki.

The reason behind this year’s election of Noma as World’s Best Restaurant is that the restaurant offers the most exiting dining experience in the world, combining traditional and Modernist cooking techniques with Nordic produce. Organised by Restaurant magazine, the S.Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants list is an annual snapshot of the opinions and experiences of over 800 international restaurant industry experts. What constitutes "best" is left to the judgement of these trusted and well-travelled gourmets and there is no pre-determined check-list of criteria.

Noma entered the S.Pellegrino World’s 50 Best List in 2006 in 33rd position, but slowly continued to creep up the list to number 15 in 2007 then number 10 in 2008. By 2009, a year before Rene Redzepi, head chef, claimed the top spot, Noma had reached number three on the list, making it one of the most talked about venues in the world.
