Europe’s 2nd highest growth rate – and yields are increasing too

2010 has been a year with impressive growth rates and repeated passenger records at CPH. With remarkable 13.4% traffic growth in October 2010 CPH is now the second fastest growing major airport in Europe only surpassed by Barcelona El Prat. And October stated yet another record growth at CPH: For the first October ever, passenger numbers exceeded the 2 million mark and CPH set a monthly growth record for the fifth consecutive month.

“This is the first time we’ve recorded more than two million passengers per month during five consecutive months. It is a clear sign that the Danish economy is picking up after the crisis, thereby benefiting the airlines through improved load factors and increased capacity” said Carsten Nørland, VP, Market & Sales, at Copenhagen Airports. And the airlines are showing clear signs of a strengthened business at CPH. In the latest financial statement from Cimber Sterling it is stated that their notable financial improvement is due to a passenger growth of 29%, a reduction of total costs of 11% and increased yield on every ticket sold.

One of the busiest months in the history of CPH

October 2010 is on the Top 10 list as the eighth busiest month ever in the history of Copenhagen Airport. And also November was a month of strong growth making it the busiest November ever with 5,000 more passengers than the record set in 2007. “The performance was in line with the track record from the previous months of the year of growth in both domestic, international and transfer traffic. The winter weather naturally posed challenges by way of a number of flight cancellations, and against this background, the improvement is highly satisfactory,” said Carsten Nørland.

Domestic traffic increased by 18.0% in November, whilst the number of locally departing international passengers increased by 11.4%. Transfer traffic rose by 4.8% in November. The year-to-date increase in passenger numbers at Copenhagen Airport is 9.0%.
