Strong cargo growth at CPH
September 2010 CPH saw Korean Air, Air China and China Cargo Airlines each add one extra weekly frequency to their cargo services. This is a result of a targeted effort to strengthen the position as a northern European cargo hub.
Copenhagen is already a main cargo hub for the whole of Scandinavia and given the strong growth forecast in air freight during the next few years, CPH expects to be handling a throughput of about one million tons a year by 2029. And the expansion is already visible as capacity has increased by 400 tons every week in September alone.
In order to support the steadily growing cargo activity, CPH has developed a dedicated Cargo City concept. The concept consists of a building of more than 26,000 m2 which CPH leases to companies with airport-related business and service functions.
The building is located close to access reads and a well-developed motorway network and it allows the use of modular vehicle units. An ideal logistics location combined with CPH’s services makes the Cargo City concept unique and unrivalled anywhere in Scandinavia.
CPH currently handles 16 weekly B747-400 and B777 freighter operations by Singapore Airlines Cargo, Korean Air Cargo, Air China Cargo and China Cargo Airlines.
