Access to CPH’s Southern Swedish catchment area to be improved further
Approximately 1,500 Swedish passengers arrive by train daily from Southern Sweden to fly from Scandinavia’s Hub. Now we expect that number to grow even further.
A new Malmö City Tunnel will significantly improve the public transportation system in Southern Sweden, hence creating even better travel times between CPH and the south Swedish catchment area. The city tunnel will be ready for use at the end of the year, and besides from improving the travel time from existing southern Swedish central railway stations, two more stations will be built before the opening. These new stations will connect underserved parts of Malmö to the public transportation system and improve the travel time from CPH to these areas up to four times.
One of the new stations will be placed in Malmö’s main business district and it is estimated to become larger than Malmö Central Station and hence the third largest station in Sweden. At the opening 37,000 passengers are estimated to pass through the station every day and in 2020 the number of passengers is estimated to have increased to 60,000.
Malmö is Sweden’s third largest city with 280,000 inhabitants. Today the travel time from CPH to Malmö Central Station is 22 minutes by train.
The Copenhagen Metro awarded the World’s best metro
At the MetroRail conference conducted in London earlier this year the Copenhagen Metro was awarded the World’s best and hence superior to the metros of London, Madrid, Sao Paolo and Seoul. The Danish Metro was rewarded two awards for best metro and best driverless metro respectively. The underlying factors for winning the wards were a very high operating stability, high passenger satisfaction, innovative technology and the expansion of the metro system which are to be finished in 2018.
