CPH expands security checkpoint in Terminal 1

Due to the massive growth in the number of domestic passengers at Copenhagen Airport in recent months, CPH is now expanding the security checkpoint in Terminal 1. The first part of the project was launched March 1st.

The intensified competition on a number of Danish domestic services, to Aalborg, Bornholm and, most recently, Karup, has resulted in a significant increase in passenger numbers and, accordingly, in the pressure on Copenhagen Airport's Terminal 1. In February alone, passenger numbers on the domestic services rose by 30.3%. This means that the security screening capacity in the terminal must be expanded fast.

“Of course, we are happy to see the significant increase in domestic traffic. That said, however, we must acknowledge that we do not have sufficient security screening capacity in Terminal 1 to meet the growing demand. We have therefore decided to make a few changes to the checkpoint in order to increase capacity,” said Kristian Kongstad, VP, Real Estate, Copenhagen Airports.

Capacity doubled

March 1st CPH opened an additional lane in the security screening facility to complement the existing two lanes, and a fourth lane will be added at the beginning of the summer, thereby doubling capacity.

“There is a demand for additional capacity here and now, and therefore we expanded the checkpoint as quickly as possible. I hope passengers will understand that we are solving the problem as quickly as we can and that they will forgive us for any inconvenience during the construction period," said Kongstad.
