New JFK service from Copenhagen in 2010
The world’s largest airline, Delta Air Lines, already now operates flights between Copenhagen Airport and its hub airport in Atlanta. In May 2010, Delta is going to launch a new daily service to one of its other main airports, JFK, the busiest airport in the New York area , which will significantly enhance the transport options to and from ”The Big Apple” – and the rest of the United States.
“There are already two direct services between Copenhagen and Newark. However, the market potential is so great that there is a basis for a third airline, which will strengthen Copenhagen as a destination. The increased accessibility to and from the United States will benefit both business and tourism,” said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales, of Copenhagen Airports, who emphasizes that the airport’s market surveys show that almost 90,000 passengers per year fly to and from JFK.
Service to strengthen both regions and Scandinavia’s Hub
“Copenhagen is currently the most important destination without non-stop flight services to New York JFK. We are pleased to be able to complement our existing service to Atlanta with a new service connecting Copenhagen with the financial centre of the United States, which will strengthen both business and tourism in the two regions,” said Jeffrey Lobl, Managing Director, Network Planning Transatlantic & Joint Venture, Delta Air Lines.
“The new service to New York is good news in itself and, in particular, it is a small but important step towards strengthening Copenhagen Airport as the traffic hub of Scandinavia because more routes means more visitors to the region,” said Lars Bernhard Jørgensen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen.
The new Copenhagen – New York service will substantially strengthen the availability of onward connections to attractive destinations such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle on the US west coast. Delta Air Lines will begin operating daily services to JFK on 28 May next year. The airline will use Boeing 757-200s with seating capacity for 170 passengers on the service.
