CPH leading on CUSS
According to IATA Copenhagen Airport is the leading airport with regards to airlines offering passengers self check-in. Currently CPH has 28 airlines connected to the self check-in service and that is twice as many compared to other Nordic airports.
“Besides the self service check-in kiosks we have taken several other initiatives to move the check-in process out of the airport. This way the passengers can check-in, choose their seat and print their boarding pass in the comfort of their own homes. These initiatives means that the time the passenger spends at the airport counter is halved which benefits both the passenger, the airlines and the airport,” says Susanne Frank, Head of Passenger Services.
The focus on improving the self service check-in processes at Copenhagen Airport means that today 58% of all passengers check-in via CUSS machines, mobile or internet. In comparison the average of the business is just under 40%.
In addition to improve the different types of self service check-in CPH is highly focused on optimizing the process in the airport terminals. This involves the passengers’ arrival flows as well as various process times – for instance the time it takes to check-in via CUSS, use the bag drop facilities or do traditional counter check-in.
Security waiting times posted
Copenhagen Airport has recently taken the initiative to post real-time queuing times for its security checkpoint on its website and displaying them on signs in the departure halls. The information is intended to help give passengers a good start to their trip by giving them a better idea of what lies ahead.
“With our new monitoring system, we can display security waiting times in real time so passengers can size up the situation and plan their time better. We know it will help give them a better start to their trip,” said Johnnie Müller, head of Security at Copenhagen Airports A/S.
In 2008, the average queuing time for security clearance was down to three and a half minutes. Last summer, which saw a record number of passengers at CPH, waiting times were less than three minutes for more than 90 per cent of the passengers.
