Copenhagen Airport reaches 19 mio. passengers in 2004 and maintains its position as the biggest airport in Scandinavia

The positive traffic development in 2004 is a turning point compared with 2003 where SARS, the war in Iraq and other factors influenced the passenger number negatively.

In 2004 the total number of passengers in Copenhagen Airport was 19. mio., corresponding to an increase of 1.3 million passengers (7.5%) compared with 2003.

International passengers

In 2004, the number of international passengers increased by 1.3 mio. passengers corresponding to an increase of 8.0%. The number of international scheduled passengers increased by 1.1 mio. passengers (7.6%), while the number of international charter passengers increased by 151,127 passengers (13.7%).

Intercontinental

Traffic on the intercontinental routes has increased by a total of 228,232 passengers (14.8%). The traffic to China which in 2003 was negatively influenced by SARS has increased by 91,529 passengers (76.2%). In March 2004 SAS opened a new route to Shanghai. This has also played a role in the increase in the traffic to China.

Scandinavia

The number of passengers on the Scandinavian routes has increased by a total of 206,441 passengers corresponding to an increase of 4.2%.
Growth divided onto countries:
• Sweden: 50,525 passengers (2.8%)
• Norway: 64,640 passengers (3.1%)
• Finland: 14,486 passengers (2.2%)
• Iceland: 76,790 passengers (23.8%)

Europe

Traffic on the European routes has increased by a total of 859,498 passengers (8.8%). When looking at the number of passengers Spain experienced the largest growth as the number of passengers increased by 168,231 (17.2%). Traffic to the 10 new EU-countries has increased with a total of 56,126 passengers corresponding to an increase of 5.2%.

Domestic passengers

The total number of domestic passengers shows an increase of 26,407 passengers (1.7%) in 2004 when compared with 2003. The largest increases in domestic traffic are seen on the routes to Billund with a total of 19,540 passengers (11.7%) and Aalborg with a total of 20,463 passengers (4.0%).

The development in low-cost traffic

In 2004 low-cost traffic made up 9.4% of traffic corresponding to 1.8 mio. passengers. In 2004 the number of low-cost passengers has increased by a total of 631,361 passengers (54.8%).

Operations and take-off weight

The total number of take-offs and landings in 2004 was 272,518 operations, an increase of a total of 13,516 operations corresponding to an increase of 5.2% when compared with 2003. The total take-off weight (tonnage) shows an increase of 7.1%.

Cargo

In 2004, the number of cargo operations shows an increase of 516 operations (5.6%) while the tonnage on cargo operations shows an increase of 6.4% when compared with 2003. The total cargo volume is 335,647 tons and is largely unchanged compared with 2003.
