Passenger record at CPH
As many as 21,530,016 passengers travelled to and from Copenhagen Airport in 2008. This was 120,490 more passengers than in 2007, equivalent to a year-on-year increase of 0.6%, and set a passenger record at the airport.

Breakdown of departing passengers
The number of departing passengers increased by 61,562 (0.8%) in 2008 and accounted for 72.7% of the departing passengers.
The number of transfer/transit passengers fell by 48,063 (1.6%) in 2008 and accounted for 27.3% of the departing passengers.

International passengers
In 2008, the number of international passengers increased by 81,313 (0.4%). The number of international scheduled passengers increased by 10,558 (0.1%), whereas the number of international charger passengers and others (GA) increased by 70,755 (4,8%).

Intercontinental
Traffic on the intercontinental routes increased by a total of 68,973 passengers (3.7%). In terms of passenger number, Thailand accounted for the highest growth as the number of passengers increased by 26,935 (5.6%).

Nordic Region
The number of passengers on the Nordic routes increased by a total of 5,760 (0.1%).

Growth/fall by country:

  • Norway: +43,920 passengers (+4.7%)
  • Iceland: +26,984 passengers (-11.7%)
  • Sweden: -3,608 passengers (-2.9%)
  • Finland: -38,025 passengers (+1.2%)


Norway most popular destination
Norway is the favourite Nordic destination. A total of 2,293,154 passengers travelled to and from Norway in 2008, representing a year-on-year increase of 4.7%. Most of the passengers to Norway travelled to Oslo. About 1.3 million passengers travelled to and from Oslo during the year, or an average of approximately 110,000 passengers per month. This made the Norwegian capital the second-most popular destination out of Copenhagen, only surpassed by London.

Europe
Traffic on the European routes increased by a total of 6,580 passengers (0.0%).
In terms of passenger number, the UK accounted for the highest growth as the number of passengers increased by 57,406 (3.0%).

Domestic passengers
For the first time in ten years, the number of domestic passengers exceeded two million. More precisely, 2,029,241 passengers flew on domestic routes to or from Copenhagen Airport in 2008, representing a year-on-year increase of 1.9%.

Peak period
Not surprisingly, the three summer months of June, July and August were the busiest months of the year. A total of 6,245,918 passengers travelled through the airport during those three months. July was the busiest month with 2,135,667 departing and arriving passengers. However the absolute peak day of the year was on 27 June, when as many as 78,889 passengers travelled through the airport.

Low-cost traffic
Copenhagen Airport had 3 million low-cost passengers in 2008. The low-cost passengers accounted for 14.1% of total traffic, which is a relatively large share for a hub airport.

Number of movements and take-off weight
The total number of take-offs and landings in 2008 was 264,095 and increased by 6,504 movements (2.5%). MTOW increased by 4.2%.

Cargo
The number of cargo movements in 2008 was down by 959 movements (-11.0%), whereas MTOW of the cargo movements fell by 4.5% year on year. The total volume of cargo in 2008 was 347,156 tonnes, representing a fall by 12.2%.
