CPH’s investment in Newcastle International
In May 2001, CPH acquired 49% of the shares in Newcastle International.
Newcastle International is located in the north-east of England and, in many respects, the region around the airport is characterised by trade and industry that is historically rooted in the traditional heavy industries of coal mining, steel production, shipbuilding and machine construction.
For a time in the 1970s and stretching into the 1980s, the region suffered a serious crisis in the shipbuilding and machine industries (as in other traditional industrial areas). However, against the backdrop of strong political and economic commitment and effort, the Newcastle region has been able to attract high-tech industry as well as tourism and culture in recent years.
