Walkway ready by New Year's 2007
Fast and easy transit from domestic to international
When at the end of 2006 Copenhagen Airport opens the new walkway between Terminal 1 (the domestic terminal) and Terminal 2, it will make life easier for the more than 600,000 passengers annually who change between domestic and international flights.
The first floor of the new 300-metre-long connecting pier will have moving sidewalks in both directions that take passengers directly to the domestic terminal lounges. The moving sidewalks will make it easier and more convenient for passengers to get from the domestic terminal to the international terminals or vice versa. Today, passengers can either walk between the terminals or take a free transit bus. The transit bus option will remain open, and there will also be an outdoor covered walkway along Terminal 1 that passengers can use.
This 12.5-metre-high, 11-metre-wide and 300-metre-long building will also act as a noise barrier along the entire length of Terminal 1, as required in the Environment and Energy Ministry's framework approval for Copenhagen Airport.
“With the new connecting pier, we will not only be making transfers between the domestic and international terminals more comfortable; we will also be complying with a requirement from the authorities to put in a noise wall. The new building will significantly improve the quality of passenger facilities at Copenhagen Airport,” said Mogens Kornbo, vice president with Copenhagen Airports.

“Inside the whale”
What does the inside of a whale look like? Perhaps it looks something like the interior of the new connecting pier and its airy proportions. See for yourself. At any rate, airport staff have already nicknamed the new structure “The Whale”.
