Baggage reclaim area of Copenhagen Airport to be expanded
Copenhagen Airport is going to expand the baggage reclaim area as part of a major investment programme aimed at boosting passenger satisfaction. In 2008 alone, investments worth around DKK 1 billion will be made in projects to improve facilities for passengers.
The expansion of the baggage reclaim area is already well under way and will be completed for the summer traffic in June 2008. When the many passengers at Copenhagen Airport return from their holidays this summer, they will therefore find an expanded baggage reclaim area.
Two new baggage belts
The baggage reclaim area will be increased by approximately 1,300 square metres, and two new baggage belts – socalled race tracks – will be installed. The expansion will also feature a new baggage unloading area directly behind the two new race tracks. This will imply a considerable improvement of working conditions for the handling companies in the existing baggage factory and, thus, faster baggage delivery, also during peak periods.
“We collaborate with the airlines and handling companies on reducing passengers’ waiting times for baggage, and we have therefore decided to expand the baggage reclaim area. The expansion should make it easier for the airlines to meet our target that 90% of baggage must be delivered to passengers within 30 minutes after the aircraft has landed,” said Henrik Peter Jørgensen, Director of Operations at Copenhagen Airports A/S.
The expansion will feature the same design as the existing baggage reclaim area and will be ready for the summer traffic in June 2008.
